I am constantly amazed by how blessed we are to have a connection with one another

When I was in the early stages of my growth as an mixed media artist , I would hole up in my studio immersed in the flow, but once the piece was finished a feeling of melancholy would arrive.

Since then my connection and networking with local San Diego artists as well as many across the country has grown and brought about such a wonderful sense of sisterhood and sharing

I think one of the best tools I've encountered this year has been the book written by

Deepak Chopra "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success"

Today being Monday we are practicing

The Law of Giving and Receiving

How beautiful and complete is this message? isn't it one of our biggest fears, that there might be a day when it stops, when all that we are attached to might dissipate?

Getting quiet ::: she found her voice

I have always been intrigued by the practice of meditation, but my inner(critic) would also remind me that I dont know how to mediatate, therefore I would feel defeated before I even tried it.Upon the encouragement of my girlfriend Korey I recently attended

So, the above journal page I created upon my return from Sedona, I experienced many healing interactions, but by far the most rewarding was finding my voice, feeling safe to express my feelings and needs- feeling my throat chakra release and my heart open.

Interestingly enough the throat chakra is a channel of creativity

( among other empowering gifts)

I realized I could meditate before I create and listen to my soul, open and expand the flow

and witness what the universe has to tell me::::

Eat Pray Love :::: oh and read

So I originally started to read this when it first came out- my great friend Korey suggested it to me, but because of the hurt and confusion in my life back then It was really hard to read it.

Now so much has transitioned and changed- God literally immersed me in growth.

Picked the book up again couple weeks ago when I realized I needed to read it before the movie comes out, so I am committed to reading ten pages in the a.m. and ten at night- at this rate I should be close to done by this Friday.

Anyway love the part about soul mates-how they are in our lives for growth and even mirroring our life path back at us. That's refreshing and healing as I have had soul mate relationships transition into nothingness only to feel a loss, but this take is much more to my liking, that these souls have touched me in a way that has promoted a better understanding of myself and my ability to accept and love all around me(myself included)

Made this little pretty for my soul sister Gloria::: she and I are on a journey of self discovery and empowerment- while carefully holding on to the sweet side of every day. Balance - Gratitude- and all that is real::::

Just got back from a quick road trip with good good friends::: we came together to attend

Terri Brush's workshop in Arizona. I had tried my hand at soldering ( all by my lonesome)a couple years back and felt pretty discouraged, but after I attended my first workshop with Terri and her amazing gentle spirit I knew I had made a friend for life;)

This was my second class with Terri and already she has me soldering big chunky boxes and the solder is flowing like butter
AND the good news is she is coming our way -this June

Had the most fun at Jackie's art meet up last tuesday- she provided all the materials

(a ginormous collection of uber cool buttons) wire , fabric and instuction on how to make these button bouquets. At first I was miss planny pants trying way to hard to match them up- then I found the best approach was just to just let it be and that's when I couldnt stop making them;)

She had this old quilt that we cut the leaves from and vintage tutu for the tulle:::: come join in the fun- it's once a month - it's free, and Jacks has EVERYTHING your heart desires when it comes to embellishments and vintage ephemera, inspration gallore

How great are all these affirmations? So needed to feel safe- give myself permission to play.

I stumbled upon this when I entered the online classroom

(le petit academy)taught by Suzi Blue - I am now convinced she wil be the one to baby step me into drawing beautiful doll folk art:::

Suzi blu and all her amazing art goddessness places you ever so gently right where you need to be , inspires you beyond belief all while engaging your silly self to play along.

This is my first sketch I have named her Spirit-

cant wait for her to come to life;)

Learned how to color her face with pencils, Suzi has SO many great tips and techniques, who new colored pencils could be so fun!

There is a huge network of artists who take the classes and the way Suzi has it set up is so fun, you can connect and share your progress.

Are you a Girlscout?

I spent this past monday evening with the Girlscouts::: playing with paperclay, making snowmen with whimsical faces and lots of glitter

I had learned this amazingly simple technique from Terri Brush, and thanks to my good friend April's networking skills we were able to pay it forward and bring it to the girls Loved being surrounded by the goodness of it all, thank you April for once again for such a brilliant connection, Shar the Girlscout Leader and the Pink Pineapple for providing the play space

We did it...... we met the challenge head on- conquered something scary, the unknown::

ignored the thoughts and voices that whispered we weren't strong enough,

or that our body's couldn't take the beating

All I know is::::

how in awe I am for the women out there that have met Cancer right in the face and not backed down

for the hundreds upon hundreds of volunteers out there that support the cause- you rock!

Women are amazingly powerful when we come together (why do we forget this?)

The mind is the key to our strength- keep it positive to succeed

being part of something larger than us is a must- especially when it connects us to our community

Thank you everyone for supporting me through this- thank you Candace you amaze me with your strength and soul::

The Warrior in us all

When we think of a true Warrior , what words come to mind?

I'm thinking::::::strength, bravery, power and courage.

We all know a warrior, a woman who has battled breast cancer and conquered the fear of the unknown

My daughter Candace invited me to be a part of her team

"for the love of boobs"

She wanted to pay tribute to her Grandma Laura who had battled breast cancer and won.

So I have been training and walking preparing myself for this upcoming weekend where we will take on 60 miles in 3days::::

There's that fear of the unknown:::: I bet we will be surrounded by strength, bravery power and courage.

It feels exhilarating to be part of something so huge, a community of those who walked through the fire and came out on the other side shining like Moses

All the achy feet, blisters, fatigue,sore backs::::

battle scars that I will proudly wear:)

I have a really great Lady in my life, I know God placed her and I in exactly the right place so we could meet, how incredible is that?

When I travel I find myself alot more in the moment, thankful for every detail.

Time for taking it all in:: allowing myself to go at a pace that is alot more relaxed- I hope to bring this attitude home with me along with all the great images and memories of how amazing the Irish are, I am proud to be part of such positive hard working heritage

OK for the record I LOVE scones with clotted cream, so much so- I cant fit in my jeans;)

The Fabulous Terri Brush of Terri Brush Designs will be leading us through a two day workshop of Papier Mache and altered snow globe art, this coming September 19th and 20- too fun!
You will have the opportunity to make a Halloween and Christmas themed globe, thank goodness because there is no way I could have chosen one over the other

I met Terri back when she came to San Diego to teach us all her fabulous soldered charms technique- I literally went home and soldered these two after learning the tricks of the trade from Terri- she made it look so easy

She also took the time to show me how to make soldered links- I love making these as it is super easy and you can take your aggression out will pounding the jewelry hammer on the silver wire;)

I made this with all the techniques I learned from Terri- the pendant is super thick to go along with the chunky links;)

I had the amazing opportunity to see Wicked on Saturday literally front and center at the theatre, it was beyond words fabulous::: I am so buzzing over the set and costume design- wouldn't it be fun to be part of such a creative group, taking viewers to a place so magical?
I loved the bubble wand that Glinda the Good Witch floats in on, I want to travel the world floating through the sky on a bubble wand!!!! this combined with her wit and

customized vocabulary made it truly entertaining on all levels.

Christmas in July

My fun and ever so clever friend Jackie is hosting art meet up today in her art studio-if you've never gone , you should- it's absolutely free and always an inspired fun time. The theme is Christmas in July:::

I transformed one of those small round tins that are sold for storing beads and such into a vintage sparkle fest;)

coated the outside with Mica flakes, I am so in the mood for creating Christmas goodies, all the fun with out the rush to spoil the creative flow

I have always admired Deb's silk flowers- she makes them the best by far:::: she shared her technique with me and now I cant stop making them!

Deb also turned me on to this fabric, It is absolutely wonderful working with this type of silk, it has a sheen to it that is so vintage.

We played with some painters drop cloth and made a soft chain, this pretty little lady will be available at Paper Tales after the 17th of July- I plan to doll her up with vintage jewels and buttons , Thank you Deb for inspiring me so, you are a true Gem

Powder Room Pink

So I took the plunge, I had seen this amazing Magazine cover, a pink room with a mantle and above the mantel was a shell adorned mirror ::I dreamed of such girlie romance but didnt want to commit to an entire room of pink

Then , I stumbled upon this mirror at Vignette's I was instantly in love .

I realized then I could create my special place in my Master bath commode- a powder room fit for a princess with pink walls and all

Didnt realize that the color on the walls would capture the reflection of the petite chandeleir-

it's so calming, all I want to do is hang out in my bathroom;)

Cleaning out my closet

I know it's a little late for Spring cleaning, and although I was dreading it I tackled my

french armoir with a vengeance

I purchased stack able units from best craft organizer, they have super thin drawers that allow inserts to hold and sort the small stuff like findings and buttons

I also needed slots for fabric and such so I put up a rod and hung canvas shoe organizers- perfect for all my fabrics and felts;)
even the funky place mats I bought from pier one(to cover art journals) have a spot

Yarn and foam for future cupcake classes- wow do I have a lot of supplies or what?

I hope as I get deeper into this I find a space for my Dolly parts

I had ordered deeper drawers so they should fit

Up until now I have been storing all my vintage gen finds in this fun hat box-

cute but

not necessarily the best way to do it

I even felt encouraged to re organize my existing system that I use for scrap booking etc...

By adding the drawer inserts my collections of keys and found metal looks so much more inspired

I stumbled upon this fantastic mirror on my recent trip to Healdsburg(Northern Calif)

It literally spoke to my soul, I felt like I had found such a happy place deep inside.

I don't think I tell myself this often enough

(it's even more engaging if you look yourself directly in the eye when you say it)

This soul speaking mirror was perfecly placed in the ladies room in Cafe Gratitude

An amazing cafe where upon ordering you are invited to share what you are grateful for, the waitress literally asks you and yes it transforms your day.

How simple - just like the mirror, I can propell myself to my happy place.

OH and by the way the food is 100% organic and 100% delicious

I finally learned how to thread the bobbin on my sewing machine- wow!

It's been 32 years since I last used my singer so this was quite an accomplishment;)

I created this 8x8 layout for a circle journal group I have been selected to be part of named "lucky 13"
Too much fun, lot's of very talented ladies, I am so very" lucky "to be part of.

Brave Women

So - believe it or not I am posting again in the same week! I have been wanting to post every day this week but didnt know where to start- then I realized I should start with Gloria.

Because without her and her brave spirit I wouldnt have even gone on such a much needed retreat.

She not only invited me, she packed all my gear into her Rover and drove my fanny all the way to Utah(6 hours; stop in vegas, another 6 hours)

I am grateful and amazed.

I am so very blessed to have her loving friendship - that she's got my back;)

Wow where do I start? Lets start with the women that made it all happen, without there vision and hard work I wouldn't be filled with creative energy and a feeling of peace and centeredness

LOVE her work, and she has an amazing book "Little Felts" which I rushed home and ordered!

In her class I literally painted 4 completed pieces,

I dont even know how::: it just happened;)

Jane Wynn - everything that is altered + grungy + vintage is rolled into this engaging

and fun lady, her book "altered curiosities" is such a great introduction to soldering on a whole new level, she taught me how to use a torch- I love her!!

And then there's Kelly Rae Roberts

Had the blessing of meeting her the first night and she was everything I had hoped and more.

her book "Taking Flight" has been a powerful tool for healing and self reflection in my

art therapy class- it's amazing and has helped me to find my center.

She inspired me about 3 months ago to start sketching and drawing and now it seems like it will always be a part of me, I have found my authentic expression and I owe that all to Kelly.

PLUS she is adorable and fun and just a great leader with the ability to spark unity.

Candice Elton co -creator of artnest -welcomed us with such a warm and engaging smile, she possesse's so many talents but the things That IMMEDIATELY come to mind are her mad cooking skills, I was constantly oohing and ahhing at every meal, It was such a blessing to be in her presence, you felt surrounded by her spirituality and strength:::

Okay so obviously this was life changing as I have never written this much- I will have to post every day because there is so much to share;)

Art Nest

I just finished my artists trades for Art Nest a retreat I will be attending this week with my very talented and amazing friend Gloria (did I mention BEAUTIFUL?)

I was stumped to know what I would make "30" of- and Gloria say's "Make those spooly things you gave us all at Christmas " I dont know what I would do without the ongoing spirit of the Muse surrounding all my girls- I feel so blessed to have so many artistic friends that are not only supportive of my madness but inspire the majority of it;)

My good friend April asked if I could make a valentine's pin
to sell at the beehive , I had an itch to use felt and recycled tin
These are also available at papertales

This was way too easy and ::fun:: Love repurposing and
working towards "creating green"

And lastly my mended heart necklace, if you
look closely the smaller heart says just that
This was so fun to make, I had some leftover vintage christmas ornaments
that are heart shaped, so I fastened a crown on top- added wings and rhinestones

Live your life on purpose

Isn’t it refreshing to think we can design the next year – customize our life?
My daughter Candace urged me to buy a book at Starbucks back in December

for us to “do” together- how brilliant, quality time together reflecting and sharing.

I cant seem to locate the book to provide a link , so if anyone out there

knows where to find it you will be our hero!
So right away it leads you into the amazing realization that our values ,

what we believe in are instrumental in uncovering our dreams and goals::: love this!
So above I “scraplifted” straight from the book and designed a word document that can be posted on a piece of carboard(14”x 8 1/2”) on the bottom, leaving the top to add some fab decorative paper. Take a good 10 minutes to jot down your top 5 values, remember there are no limits- no rules.

I did this thinking I could lead my Ladies at New Entre Casa through a “life strategy”Art class, sharing our dreams and hopes for the coming year. If you’d like the word document I made just post me your email and I will forward to you- but please follow up with your thoughts and ideas(pictures would be Fab!) and I will post for all to share

Grace and Unconditional love

My daughter's Grandmother Laura Lee passed away on Christmas Eve.
Her spirit of love and selflessness was that of a saint, seems like Jesus chose to lift her to Heaven
on the eve of his birth - I will miss her terribly but feel her so close now.
Candace created a tribute to this amazing lady::: another heart grabbing experience::::
Laura Lee has left so much of her goodness for me in my sweet Candace Laree.

I ventured upon the Artisan Alley craft fair in Coronado,
and I was instantly mesmerized ;)
My most favorite of all vendors was Tiziana Boccaletti
as she had the most beautiful, romantic felted scarves and cuffs.

I decided to make a display for some of my jewelry pieces out of a Styrofoam tree.

There's just something about tree's, I love them in all shapes and sizes.

This is a fun and easy project all you need is a tree, Modge Podge, an old book, 2" circle punch

and some ink. I love Cat eye ink, its handy for aging paper.

Simply cut out your circles with the circle punch, cut them in half with scissors, ink them around the rounded edge and paste them on with Modge Podge.

I start at the very bottom and put the first row of halved circles upside down- this way we cover all the Styrofoam.After the first row is placed now apply the rest of the rows with the rounded edge pointing towards the floor- As you go along it's helpful to apply a thin layer of Modge Podge over the paper you have attached as well. When I came to the very top I cut a piece free hand to cover the tip- and also a large circle out of any paper you like for the base.
What's so great is you can decorate the tree with any type of push pin or Vintage pins, I also stuck needles through buttons;)

I am so excited about these blocks, they are so fun and easy to make.
It all started when I was shopping at anthropology and they had these clever blocks of wood adorned with old photo’s- That’s all it took and I have been busy making these in all shapes and sizes.
Recently I taught my ladies at the shelter how to make the “blessed block” they of course inspired me to layer more colors and this is when I realized I could stamp on the paper, the possibilities are endless and the inspiration of gratitude is in the air

some images of the project we are working on at New Entre Casa.

This is a drug rehabilitation center where I have created

an art therapy program , and weekly I teach a project and spend time really getting to connect with these amazing woman, it’s my favorite part of the week and I cant express how grateful I am to be part of such an amazing program;)

Our focus this week is to express and acknowledge the gifts in our lives

With all that is going on with the economy this type of project really brings about a true feeling of peace .

Well, I have been busy being a travel bug, so I have a good excuse ;)

Having gone on a much needed excursion to Switzerland and Greece I feel refreshed renewed and itching to create. Autumn is my most fav time of the year – there is so much that inspires us all to craft, decorate and nest.

I am so excited about this fabulous(no- sew) tape my good friend Kayellen

gave me to play with;) I have yet to master the sewing machine but

absolutely love fabrics and notions to no end, so Sealah no sew tape is my new Favorite!!

I also have a huge fascination with Marie Antionette, and all her over the top gowns,
I simply attatched and layered the fabric with the Sealah tape to create this layout for my Scrap Calendar, you can cut your pieces to fit accordingly and the fabric just latches right on.

Vintage Charm

I made this crown on the base of a tiara that I bought at Party City
I was going through a phase were I had to alter and use vintage frames on everything(still in that phase actually) The fun thing is you just glue gun away…
